The price for our redemption was settled forever at the Cross. But the implementation of His kingdom purposes are still in process.
“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 9:25).
Calvary may be finished, but we are not! Therefore Jesus lives to make intercession for the Saints according to the will of God.
Much has been made of Jesus’ redemptive act, and rightly so! But unfortunately, not enough has been made of Christ’s work “in” us. And at the heart of this purifying work are the prayers of Jesus.
So Christ intercedes, and the Holy Spirit makes intercession with unutterable groaning. There is continual communication within the Godhead. And we are invited to join this cosmic prayer meeting for the implementation of His plan. Jesus is still praying because intercession is the means to bring His kingdom purposes to fruition.
The price of redemption is completed, but the process of sanctification is ongoing. Therefore, Jesus prays that His Father’s will be accomplished on earth… as in heaven. He prays as our Mediator, our Sanctifier, our Healer, and coming King.
He prayed on earth. And He still prays for us at the Father’s right hand. So take heart because our sympathetic Savior is always praying for us.
